The International Joint Class was held with Seoul Shindap Primary School. Today's theme was the similarities between Japanese and Korean languages. The students looked at pictures and photos representing the words "bag (kaban)", "family (kazoku)" and "reading (dokusho)" and pronounced them alternately in Japanese and Korean. In Korean, the words are pronounced 'gabang', 'kajok' and 'dogseo' respectively. Next, the students read the sentences 'The road is toll-free (Doro ga muryo da)' and 'The road is not toll-free (Doro ga yuryo da)'. The Korean words for these meanings, '도로가 무료다' and '도로가 유료다', are read as 'dolo ga mulyo da' and 'Doro ga yulyo da' respectively. The students learnt that the reasons for the similarities between Japanese and Korean languages are that words based on Chinese characters are read in similar ways and that many words were introduced into Korean from Japanese between 1910 and 1945. |
